Introduction. Ensuring the safety of citizens – life, health, property – determines the relevance of studying the psychological safety of employees of responding units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. The aim of the study is to study the subjective well-being and the need for safety as criteria determining the state of psychological safety of employees of fire and rescue units of the Yekaterinburg Fire and Rescue Garrison of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. Presumably, the emotional component of subjective well-being influences the psychological safety of ministry employees. Materials and methods. The sample was formed from employees of the responding units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia serving in the city of Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region (N=83), men, aged 21 to 45 years (M=29.34 years, SD=5.14). The study used: the questionnaire “Assessment of personal satisfaction in the need for security” (O.Yu. Zotova), to determine the satisfaction of the need for psychological security; the Scale of subjective well-being (A. Perue-Badu, G. Mendelson, J. Chiche, adaptation by M.V. Sokolov) to measure the emotional component of subjective well-being, an individual’s assessment of his own emotional state; a questionnaire to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of respondents. Results. In the “Safety/Comfort” group, satisfaction with activities, positive mood changes, positive attitude towards others were determined, while there was a decrease in the need for predictability of events, a decrease in the need to be loved and desired. In the “Danger/Comfort” group, the need for protection from war and public unrest is growing against the background of low self-assessment of health, at the same time, satisfaction with activities and relationships with others was observed. The differences found relate to the perception of safety. Conclusions. Employees who have a low level of psychological safety are included in the “risk group”. The problem of ensuring effective activity in emergency conditions involves the physical and mental health of specialists. The study of psychological safety will allow us to determine its impact on the Ministry’s employees when carrying out extreme activities. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the data obtained as additional information in the implementation of psychological support for employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
