The development of foreign language education in the context of expanding intercultural professional interaction necessitates improving the quality of language training for medical students. One of the key methodological conditions of professionally oriented foreign language instruction is the use of instructional means aimed at stimulating learners&amp;rsquo; speech activity and fostering readiness for intercultural professional communication. Within foreign language teaching methodology, these conditions are commonly implemented through the application of game-based technologies. However, despite their widespread use, speech and sport games as a specific subtype of game-based technologies remain insufficiently elaborated from a theoretical and methodological perspective in teaching foreign language communication to medical students. The purpose of the article is to provide a theoretical analysis of the functions, characteristics, and conditions for the application of speech and sport games in the formation of intercultural communicative competence among medical students. Materials and methods. The article is based on an analysis of Russian and international scholarly sources addressing game-based technologies and professionally oriented foreign language instruction, employing methods of theoretical analysis and synthesis, comparison and generalization, classification, and systematization. Results. Speech and sport games are examined as a form of game-based activity integrating speech and motor components and performing motivational, communicative, cognitive, emotional-regulatory, socializing, diagnostic, and educational functions. Conclusion. The findings indicate that speech and sport games can be regarded as an effective methodological means of enhancing foreign language training and developing intercultural communicative competence in medical students.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Introduction.
