Psychological well-being and resilience of alcohol-dependent men

Introduction. At the present stage of world turbulence, socio-economic and political crises, the consideration of such concepts as “psychological well-being” and “resilience of the individual”, especially among people who have lost their life orientations and abuse alcohol, becomes an important topical problem in society. Alcoholism is a problem that has been of interest to the scientific community for a long period of time, because people who abuse alcohol represent a kind of threat to society, parasitize, negatively affect the environment. The purpose of the work: to identify the peculiarities of psychological well-being and resilience of people who abuse alcohol. Materials and methods. The sample consisted of 32 men who underwent rehabilitation in the Center for Social and Psychological Assistance to Alcoholics (Minsk, RB), and 36 men who had no problems with alcohol consumption (Donetsk, RF). Psychodiagnostic tools included: “Scale of psychological well-being” by K. Rieff (adaptation of T.D. Shevelenkova, T.P. Fesenko); method of diagnostics of resilience (S. Muddy in adaptation of D. Leontiev). The results of the study and their discussion. The authors analyze the opinions of scientists regarding the concept of “psychological well-being”. Various theoretical concepts and approaches are considered, on the basis of which it is found out that psychological well-being is a multilevel concept. Its main components are socio-economic, psychological, physical and spiritual components. The article presents the results of the study of the degree of psychological well-being and the level of resilience of people who abuse alcohol. The data obtained showed that the majority of respondents have a pessimistic attitude to life, low or average levels of resilience, low self-esteem, unwillingness to change something, insufficient internal resources for positive changes. Conclusion. People who abuse alcohol have a distorted concept of “well-being”. It is difficult for them to perceive reality, many have a loss of meaning in life, a reduced emotional background, rejection of self, unwillingness to plan for the future. They tend to have a low level of resilience and a reduced general background of well-being in life. The re-socialization of persons prone to alcohol consumption is possible not only if the person wishes to do so, but also in the case of a comprehensive approach by the state, long-term psychotherapeutic work, support of all family members, as well as friends and close people.
