Introduction. The pertinence of the study stems from the need for a comprehensive analysis of students’ attitudes towards design and project activities and their readiness to engage in similar activities in the future, which will allow the university to organize design training, form and develop students’ motivation to master design activities both during the training process and after its completion. The purpose of the work is to identify students’ attitudes towards design and project activities. The study makes it possible to evaluate the results of preparing undergraduate students for project activities, as well as to identify hidden problems. Research methods and methodology. The study was conducted by surveying first-year students at Moscow City Pedagogical University from May to June 2021, using the Google Forms service. 494 students took part in the survey. During the survey, respondents were asked to answer questions regarding various aspects of project activities, which collectively characterize the attitude towards design and project activities in the educational process and the prospects for participation in such in the future. Results. The study made it possible to evaluate the results of bachelor students' preparation for project activity to project activities, as well as to identify hidden problems. However, only a little more than half of the respondents expressed a desire to engage in project activities. The rest have a negative attitude towards design and project activities, arguing their point of view by the complexity and presence of various difficulties in developing the project. A quarter of respondents do not expect to develop projects or take part in project activities. Conclusion. Taking into account the results and conclusions of the study, directions are presented that will allow universities to ensure a closer connection of students with design activities and the projects that they develop, which will ultimately make it possible to interest students in mastering design as a type of future professional activity and increase motivation.
