Criteria of psychological safety of firefighters
Introduction. Firefighters are forced to live in objectively dangerous for their health and life conditions (situations) when carrying out their activities, while ensuring safety through knowledge, skills and compliance with the rules. At the same time, subjective danger, the impact of which can extend beyond the scope of professional activity, is rarely considered as something serious, entailing mental and physical health disorders. The purpose is to determine the compliance with the criteria and the level of psychological safety of employees of fire-rescue units (hereinafter – FRU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, to determine the differences in groups with different length of service in the system of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The sample was made up of employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations who serve in the city of Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region, a total of 66 respondents aged 19 to 48 years (M = 29.91 years, SD = 8,253). Materials and methods. The five-factor personality questionnaire 'Big Five' (R. McCrae, P. Costa); the 'Value orientations of personality' questionnaire (M. Rokich); the 'Life purpose' questionnaire (O.I. Motkov); the 'Life satisfaction index' questionnaire (B. Newgarten, adapted by N.V. Panina); the 'Self-actualisation test' (E. Shostrom, modified version by Yu.E. Alyoshina and L.Ya. Gozman, M. V. Zagika and M. V. Kroz), and the 'Individual Experience' author's questionnaire. Results. The characteristic features of the majority of respondents were identified: activity, friendliness, sociability, attachment to a group and professional activities, the ability to self-regulate, emotional restraint; attention to health; the support of others is expressed, the internal locus of control is expressed; the general mental state, comfort and social adaptability are evaluated polarly; self-actualization is more at the normative level; satisfaction with the profession does not extend to all sides of the service. Conclusions. Based on the collected and analyzed data, it can be assumed that firefighters do not have a well-formed state of subjective safety.
