The influence of self-perception on the development of a sense of responsibility among students of psychology in their future professional practice

Introduction. The study's relevance lies in its investigation of the factors that influence the development of personal responsibility, a quality essential for everyone, particularly those in professions involving risk to life and health. One such field is the psychology of professional activity. However, there are no studies in the scientific literature that enable us to analyse the influence of self-perception on the development of this personality trait. The study aims to reveal how self-perception influences the development of responsibility among future psychologists in their professional practice. Materials and methods. The study involved students majoring in Psychology of Professional Activity. Research methods: the Method of Self-perception Research (MSR) (S.R. Panteleev), Responsibility as a Systemic Quality of Personality (V.P. Pryadein), and Express Diagnostics of Responsibility (EDR) (V.P. Pryadein). Results. It was revealed that the majority of surveyed students have an average level of responsibility, as well as an average level of the individual components of responsibility. At the same time, two indicators, 'subjective effectiveness' and 'cognitive meaningfulness', were found to be above average. Among the self-perception indicators, the highest values were obtained for the “self-worth” indicator, with an average level revealed for all other indicators except for this one. Conclusion. It was proven that students' self-perception indicators affect their general sense of responsibility and its individual components. The results obtained allow us to conclude that developing a positive self-perception is important for students of psychology in their future professional activities, as this directly affects one of the most important qualities for psychologists – responsibility.
