Introduction. Today, education, including educational practices, is moving toward a digital format. Digital transformation affects all areas of educational activity, and digital resources, neural networks, and instant messengers are part of everyday life. Traditional school systems are also gradually transitioning to digital formats. Rituals have always been an integral part of school life. Today, school rituals are losing or changing some of their characteristics, which affects their educational function. The purpose of this study is to determine the directions and results of the transformation of school rituals, their place and characteristics in the digital environment of modern schools. Materials and Methods. The empirical base consisted of educational organizations in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation (8 regions). The survey covered 875 teaching staff and used a specially designed questionnaire. The results of data processing revealed a gap between the assessment of the capabilities and significance of ritual in the traditional school environment. Despite the seemingly successful transition to digital education, there is a problem with quality indicators. Teachers only understand the translation of rituals into digital formats through photo reports of digital resources. This means that the meaning of rituals and students' subjective engagement are lost, indicating that the educational potential of digital formats is not being utilised to its fullest extent. Conclusion. Maintaining and realizing the educational function and potential of ritual in a digital school requires not so much technical solutions as a rethinking of its formats and the roles of participants. A key condition is the transition from information-based formats to active ones that involve collaborative activities.
